The Program
Friday, August 5, 2011 at 8:00AM The 2009 HITECH program authorized payments to physicians (and some other health care providers) who demonstrate "meaningful use" of an approved electronic medical record (EMR). The purpose of the program is to encourage the use of EMR, thereby reducing healthcare expenditures going forward.
Providers can qualify under one of two programs: Medicare or Medicaid. Although the Medicaid program provides up to $64,000 over 5 years and includes nurse practitioners and other providers, providers must have at least 30% Medicaid patient population (20% for pediatricians). Therefore, most will qualify under the Medicare program, including:
- Doctor of medicine or osteopathy
- Doctor of dental surgery or dental medicine
- Doctor of podiatry
- Doctor of optometry
- Chiropractor
Payments have already been received by many of our customers. This program is for real.
